On May 3, 2016, the RN-to-Patient Ratios Law (Ohio Patient Protection Act – SB 324) was introduced in Ohio to replace the current, devastating to Nurses and deadly to Ohio Patients “Safe Staffing” law sponsored by the ANA in 2008.
This is a good news for every Ohio resident, patient and nurse. However, we expect a fierce opposition from the American Nurses Association (ANA) which is sponsored by big Pharma and Hospital Industry.
Only together we can win the fight against the Hospital Industry, and to ensure that the RN-to-Patient Ratios Law is enacted in Ohio. We are asking every Ohio Nurse and every person in Ohio to say “YES” to the Ohio Patient Protection Act by joining the Ohio Coalition for Nurse-to-Patient Ratios.
The ANA and it’s sponsors have a long history of opposing the RN-to-Patient Ratios. Because of that, in 1995 the California Nurses decided to free themselves from an organization that not only failed to represent their views on the national stage, but indeed pushed for positions that were adverse to the interests of front-line staff nurses. After ending it’s ties with ANA, the California nurses were successful in establishing the first-in-the-nation Law mandating Nurse-to-Patient Ratios in California. As a result, their working conditions, pay and benefits, as well as the Patient safety have improved dramatically. Adjusted for cost of living, the average California RN’s income is 234% higher than an income of average Ohio RN.
For the sake of our patients and well-being of our Nation we must do the same in Ohio.
